The name sesame comes fro Arab "simsim", from Copt "semsem" and from Egyptian "semsent". It's a plant native to oriental India : "indicum" means, in fact, from India.
The use of sesame seeds, as seasoning and for the eatable oils production, goes back to 3000 b.C.
The first evidences of sesame seeds use as spices can be found in the Assyrian mythology: stories tell Gods delighted themselves with sesame wine the night before the earth creation.
The plant can grow till 2 meters even if, on average, the high varies from 60 to 120 cm.
The gathering season is September- April.
The major consume regards the natural seeds and the roasted without skin used in bakery.
